The Two Party System Must Die

 

I’ll be the first to be a bit bitchy when someone drops the line,

I’m voting for the lessor of two evils.

or worse yet,

vote blue no matter who

or the worst,

Red or we’re all dead

I made that last one up.

But see how stupid that all sounds?

Is Kennedy the Remedy?

Maybe, but not for the reasons you may think.

It’s a strange time to be alive, almost like a portal from JFK’s assassination accidentally slipped open and the stray bullets came screaming into 2024.

Who tried to kill Trump? 

Is President Biden still our president?

Do democrats question their democratic processes with Kamala being slammed into candidacy for president with no primary process? Or are we all openly accepting the fallacy of “choice”?

There is a Kennedy in the mix now, one that had both a father and an uncle killed for their populist mantras in the 1960's.

Is this the time a 3rd party candidate could win?

I look back in time (thank you PBS) and see how 3rd parties have had times to shine amidst the chaos of things. But few prevail, because we are a nation that adores binary thinking, even if it doesn’t really exist.

We are a nation that likes to think that we think in black and white when it’s actually the propaganda machine jamming their agendas into our eyes and hearts.

Could you be personally pro life but also support the woman’s right to choose?

Could you be for the decriminalization of marijuana and other mind altering substances while not wanting to consume them yourself ? 

Can you support freedom of speech but not agree with what everyone else says?

Can you allow something to exist that doesn’t directly affect your life without choosing to have a staunch opinion about it? Can you allow other people to live their lives as they so choose, while they do the same for you?

That’s the problem with politics — -we’ve been trained to exist in a blue and red space that never existed. We are told to swear allegiance on topics that shouldn’t be opposites to each other, and to not question that beautiful zone that exists between the two.

We have forgotten how to think for ourselves because we don’t have enough brain power left at the end of a work day that makes us dead inside.

So how do we reconcile?

The only power the people have is solidarity, and that is why “binary” agendas exist. If you divide, you will conquer. It’s never been us versus them, it’s been us versus us. We are too caught up in exaggerating how much different “the other” is, that we’ve forgotten how alike we all are.

Can a third option exist? Can Kennedy with his brain worm rot and strange origin stories be the kind of weird we need?
