Khaleesi Hair
In 2020, I had approximately 0 white hairs.
If my MRNA knowledge serves me correctly, I should have inherited most of my genes for my hair color and texture from my mother, and her from her mother--all the way down through the matrilineage.
My maternal Grandma Dorothy, had approximately 5 white hairs when she died in her 90's.
Today, in 2025, I have more white hairs than my Grandmother did at 93.
Before COVID, and a concurrent cascade of health problems; I joked that I would get my first white hair when I turned 90.
But now, I think I'll probably be fully Emily the White (haired) by that time.
Gandalf said it best: “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
I've come to call them my Khalessi hairs--earned through tumult and battle--each one a reminder that I survived every onslaught. Daenerys Targaryen didn't shun her unusual natural hair color; she was revered for it.
While I am no Dany, I do like to think that my new au naturel highlights are a wonderful testament to how I've persevered through circumstances that seemed insurmountable
While I have dyed my hair in the past, and I may yet dye it in the future, as it stands I think I'll let my jet white highlights have a moment in the sun.
