A New Way to Measure Time
As the ever optimist that we can uncommoditize our lives, I propose a new way of measuring time:
A New Way to Measure Time
What if we measured
our moments
with laughter;
the cadence of a chuckle
and the longevity of the reverberation
as an indication of how well we are living?
What if instead of the hands ticking on a clock,
we used how long we held hands
with those we love
as the quality of our contentment?
What if we marked our days to the count of all the hugs done right?
What if the coherence of our heart with someone else's, was our atomic clock's tolerance?
What if instead of asking ourselves
if we are wasting time,
what if we decided to
make more of it?
Can we set aside bits
and pieces of it,
cached away for those days
when there never seems to be enough of it? Moments pass too quickly when we are with the ones we love.
What if each breath in and out,
was our new secondhand,
the quality of our lungs' capacity,
the metronomic beat
by which we can know happiness?
Maybe we measure the pace
of our days with our intentions?
Did I do something good for myself today?
Was the overflowing of my
cup shared with someone else?
Was I able to hold space for myself,
and if I could, did I let my heart beat
safely with someone else?
Can we create a new sort of time, that moves to the rhythm of the collective beat of all our hearts? Can our concept of time become music? Can we feel its emotional flow and know I am exactly when I'm supposed to be?
